A Meta Revolution

Now, I've gone to the trouble of explaining the current meta in a previous post. The reason for that was in preparation for what some are calling a League of Legends Revolution. The team known as RockSolid has made a rapid rise to the top of the tournament scene with what is rumored to be a new meta.

The current metagame has been in place for a long time, and is generally considered the golden standard of high level gameplay. The concept of such an amazing change is potentially revolutionary. Let me start the description of this style with a simple video:

The first thing any viewer would notice are the picks on RockSolid's side. Before discussing the viability, innovation, and strategy behind these - the fact they had the balls to make those picks says a great deal about the team. And the first point to discuss would be support Gangplank. Around the nine minute mark, for those that don't like to read, it's clear why they made this pick. Ashe would initiate a gank, which is assumed of any Ashe, and GP would Scurvy, flash, and Ult, immediately turning a 3v2 into a 2v3. The innovation behind recognizing the enemy's strategy, and then picking to beat it rather than to fall into the META of today, is absolutely amazing.

It's easy to say that this team is on the rise, and I certainly hope their careful strategy of picks and counterpicks will follow suit. The important lesson to note here is that no part of LoL is set in stone. There has never been a "best" way to play, there's never been a "best" champion (except for release Xin...) and there will always be change.

The only constant in professional gaming is change, my friends.
